CAST Trial

Summary: Evaluated the suppression of premature ventricular contractions after acute myocardial infarction using the class I antiarrhythmic drugs encainide, flecainide and moricizine. These drugs did decrease premature ventricular contractions, but increased antiarrhythmic related deaths. This led to the recommendation that class IC drugs not be used in patients with coronary artery disease.
