Which medications offer a mortality benefit in patients with chronic systolic congestive heart failure?
1. ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers
2. Beta-blockers
3. Spironolactone
4. Combination of hydralazine/nitrates when ACE inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers are not able to be tolerated
Note: Digoxin and loop diuretics have no mortality data to support their use, although dramatic symptomatic improvement can be seen with these therapies.
