Question 36/36
What are the two neurohormonal mechanisms in play in patients with systolic heart failure?
Activation of the sympathetic nervous system and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) occur in patients with systolic heart failure. Then mainstay of therapy for this disorder is directed at these two systems. Beta-blockers inhibit the sympathetic nervous system activity and ACE inhibitors/angiotensin receptor blockers as well as spironolactone inhibit the RAAS.
