Shone’s complex (a.k.a. Shone’s syndrome) is the combination of stenotic heart lesions. Commonly, coarctation of the aorta, subvalvular aortic stenosis, a supravalvular mitral membrane and a parachute mitral valve (both mitral leaflets attaching to one papillary muscle instead of two) are present.

There are varying degrees of severity in those with Shone’s complex. All four stenotic lesions may be present or there may be fewer. Also, the severity of each individual lesion varies significantly. Diagnosis is made on echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. Surgical correction is often required.
