Question 21/29
What is Loeffler’s endocarditis?
Loeffler’s endocarditis (a.k.a. Davies disease or endomyocardial fibrosis) occurs from any disorder that elevates the eosinophil count such as parasitic infections. This results in fibrotic thickening of the endocardium which can result in mural thrombus formation which can embolize resulting in stroke. Treatment is aimed at the primary cause and anticoagulation is frequently utilized.
