Question 22/28
What term is given to the coronary anomaly in which the left main coronary artery arises from the pulmonary artery?
This is termed to Bland-White-Garland syndrome or ALCAPA (Anomalous origin of the Left Coronary Artery from the Pulmonary Artery).
ALCAPA is a rare, but potentially life-threatening coronary anomaly. The blood from the pulmonary artery supplying the left coronary circulation is largely de-oxygenated. This can result in symptoms of angina and systolic heart failure.
