Question 20/28
What is a Gerbode defect including the cause and treatment?
A Gerbode defect, sometimes classified as a type of ventricular septal defect, is a congenital anomaly in which an abnormal communication between the left ventricle and the right atrium exists. This results in a left to right shunt of blood between these two chambers. Surgical closure is frequently required and is indicated if symptoms of heart failure develop.
