Joan Eitzen, PhD, MPH, MSW, BSN, spent almost 3 decades on active duty in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She was stationed at army hospitals across the U.S., South Korea and Japan. Eitzen was deputy commander for nursing at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She has lived in Colorado Springs with her husband since retirement, where she remains active in the medical arena as a volunteer.
